Competitive salary

We offer a competitive salary based on your qualifications and experience:

  • Newly qualified social worker: £25,694 – £29,854
  • Social worker: £29,033 – £32,164
  • Experienced social worker: £32,164 – £37,721
  • Senior practice lead: £37,721 – £43,801
  • Team manager: £43,801 – £50,251

Contribution based pay linked to performance means that you can still receive a pay award even if you have reached the top of your salary grade as well as a choice of non-pay rewards such as additional annual leave, shopping vouchers or healthcare benefits.


If you are a newly qualified social worker, we will pay your HCPC fees in full and support you through the ASYE programme.

Pension scheme

A career average pension scheme with employee contributions of between 5.5% and 8.5% and employer contributions currently of 23.3%.

Flexible and mobile working

We recognise the benefits of an effective work life balance. We therefore allow you to accumulate 20 hours flexi per four week period which can be taken as up to two days leave during the following or subsequent period up to a maximum of 16 days per year.You will be able to work from any of our Council Offices or from home, where you will have access to the leading software system, Liquid Logic, enabling you to maintain records effectively.

Annual leave

You will receive 25 days annual leave per annum rising to 30 days after five years continuous local government service. There is also the opportunity to ‘Salary Sacrifice’ annual leave allowing you to purchase up to 10 days extra leave per year.

Refer a friend to Cheshire West and Chester Council and we’ll reward you when they first start working for us and again after 12 months.

Relocation package

Team managers will be eligible for a relocation package, agreed prior to appointment, up to £10,000.

Car parking and allowances

You will be provided with a free parking space at any of our Council offices you visit. You can also claim up to 45 pence per mile travelled for business purposes.
